- Indy, Vincent d'
- (1851-1931)composerBorn in Paris into a family of amateur musicians originally from the Cévennes, vincent d'indy studied music at the Paris Conservatoire, where he was a student of césar franck. A friend of hector berlioz and Gioacchino Rossini, he also knew Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner and was a great admirer of German music. Among his other works are operas (Fervaal, 1885, inspired by Wagner; La Légende de saint Christophe, 1920), String Quartet (1890), Istar (1896); works inspired by the Mediterranean (Poème des rivages, 1921; Diptyque méditerranéen, 1926), his masterpiece, L'Étranger, a symbolic drama after Ibsen (1898-1901), and other symphonies and sonatas. indy also published a Traité de composition musicale, which is a testament to his love of music and art.
